Lee Prosser, jazzreview.comCongratulations to Mel Bay Publications for this hands-on, useful series titled GUITAR JOURNALS. Much needed in the world of spin-a-minute guides to guitar instruction, this series is something that every guitarist will find useful, and a perfect item to have in the Public Library. The series is in-depth, and there is much to learn that is useful! This review covers two of these fine books in the series. Mastering the Fingerboard: The Reading Book explains string studies, note studies, the keys, and key reviews. A perfect guide, it gives the guitarist what is most needed for key reference. Jazz, the second book for review, is superb in its direct approach to jazz guitar, and this book comes with a play-along CD, the book covers comping, single-line solos, chord melodies, six-string, jazz chord, scale charts, seven-string guitar appendix, among other topics.GUITAR JOURNALS is a welcome series to the guitar instruction world. Excellent series. Highly recommended reference/guides to learning guitar techniques. Enjoyable and educational.
